Team GB are celebrating an Olympic Super Saturday gold rush - with Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah still to come.

A sensational world record-breaking performance by women cyclists in the team pursuit, in the frenzied atmosphere of the velodrome, led to the third gold medal of the day. The team of Dani King, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell led from the start to beat the USA in a record time of 3:14.051.

Earlier, at Eton Dorney, an ecstatic crowd cheered the men's coxless four of Andrew Triggs Hodge, Pete Reed, Tom James and Alex Gregory to a victory, which extended Britain's dominance in the event to 16 years.

And just minutes later Kat Copeland and Sophie Hosking hugged each other, almost in disbelief, as they claimed gold in the lightweight event.

The three wins propelled the British team into third position in the medal table with 26 - 11 gold, seven silver and eight bronze .

In the Olympic Stadium excitement was at fever pitch as Ennis looked set to realise her dream of winning the heptathlon. She takes a massive lead into tonight's 800 metres and is poised to achieve a historic victory.

Ennis, who has competed with extraordinary composure and a radiant smile, despite the weight of expectation on her, appeared relaxed as she counted down the hours to this evening's finale on the track.

She said: "It's a great way to go into the 800, so I just want to go back and rest a bit and see what I've got left in my legs."

After Ennis's race, all eyes will be on Farah, who bids for Olympic gold in the 10,000 metres. Farah, one of Britain's most popular sportsmen will be counting on the huge crowd to roar him to victory.

And British sports fans have another titanic day to look forward to on Sunday, with Andy Murray featuring in two tennis finals: against old rival Roger Federer in the singles and then with Laura Robson in the mixed doubles.
