An RAF Sea King helicopter has joined a rescue effort on a swollen river in North Yorkshire
An RAF Sea King helicopter has joined a major rescue operation involving firefighters, police and mountain rescue volunteers after reports of a person in difficulty in a swollen river.
A number of fire engines, police vehicles and an air ambulance are involved in the rescue bid taking place at a bridge near the village of Reeth, Swaledale, North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and North Yorkshire Police both confirmed they were involved in an ongoing incident, which unfolded earlier this afternoon, but neither could give any more details.
The RAF search and rescue team based at RAF Leconfield, near Hull, and the Swaledale Mountain Rescue team also confirmed they were involved.
One man who lives near the scene said: "We've seen multiple fire engines, police and the air ambulance and there's also been a Sea King down there.
"We're just trying to find out what's happening."
