TIVERTON ABC enjoyed another busy weekend with bouts in Exeter and Blandford.

Alex Jones boxed in the first round of the Elite championships at Exeter’s Corn Exchange against Tommy Frame of the Jersey Leonis club.

Jones lost a points decision against a very good boxer.

As always Jones gave 100% and most people thought he nicked the second round but it was not to be.

Coach Paul Harvey said: “By all accounts Alex gave his all against a classy boxer and that’s all you can ask.

“I’m sure he will bounce back this Saturday when he boxes in Bideford.”

Harvey was otherwise engaged in Blandford with juniors Brad Davey and Harry Evans.

Davey, making his ring début, won on a split decision against Shepton Mal-let’s Cameron Brown.

After a nervous first round he got into his stride with with some lovely straight punches.

Harvey said: “That’s a great start for Brad.

“He showed good composure, listened, and boxed really well.

“Brad’s put in a lot of effort in the gym over the last couple of months and now he’s reaping the rewards.”

Evans made it a double at the venue with a unanimous decision against Sydenham’s Joe Bevan.

After an excellent first round for Evans the bout became a bit messy as Bevan looked to hold at every opportunity.

Harvey said: “That win’s just what Harry needed.

“He showed a bit of ring rust and at times was a little too eager to close the distance down but he’s not boxed for 13 months as he’s had a lot of problems with his thumb.

“It’s nice to see him back training and getting a win under his belt.”
