TIVERTON'S Zack Jones put in an almost perfect boxing display to take a unanimous points decision in his rematch with Torrington’s Robbie Moore Jones.

Jones didn’t put a foot or punch wrong in a totally dominant display against the home boxer and even had time for an ‘Ali shuffle’ in the third round.

Coach Paul Harvey said: “Zack was brilliant tonight. His footwork and movement was spot on and his punch selection was outstanding.”

Jones now looks forward to the ABA Western Counties final in Swindon next Friday.

Unfortunately Tiverton’s two other boxers on the Torrington show didn’t fare so well.

Callan Bryant lost in the Devon, Dorset and Cornwall round of the Junior ABA championships when he was unanimously outpointed by Portland’s Kane Hamilton.

Bryant started brightly enough but failed to sustain it and Hamilton slowly gained control of the bout to take the decision.

Senior Brad Riggs boxed Bideford’s Ben Owen who was taking part in his 80th bout.

The bout was stopped prematurely near the end of the second after a clash of heads which caused Riggs to receive eight stitches in a cut over his right eye The bout then went to the scorecards with Riggs losing on a split decision.

Harvey said: “It was a shame because it was turning into a great bout.”

It was an all action affair in the first with both boxers having their moments but Owen just about stealing the round.

In the second Riggs stepped up the pressure with some clever jabs and backhands to the head and body.

Harvey added: “I’m convinced Brad would have gone on to win the bout as he was starting to take control with some lovely boxing until the cut.”
