TOM Hanson capped a sensational year by smashing the record for the best aggregate score in the juniors’ scratch club championship at Tiverton.

The two-handicapper needed a gross 72 in the final event of the season on Sunday – for the Heathcoat Trophy and Holland Cup – to equal Harry Konig’s three-round record of 213.

Hanson ended up shooting a three-under 68 for a total of 209, largely thanks to birdies on the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 13th and 15th.

The junior captain’s heroics were only good enough for second place in the Heathcoat Trophy as his nett 66 was surpassed by Jake Reddick’s 62, which earned the winner a handicap cut from 12 to 10.

The Holland Cup, based on stableford points, was won by George Sampson with 42.

Sampson, who had his handicap cut from 12 to 11, was also in pole position to win the stableford club championship with his three-round aggregate of 122.

But Josh Tidborough came in with 38 in the final group of the day to clinch the trophy with a total of 125, coming second in the Holland Cup.

In the nine-hole competition for non-CONGU players off the red and blue tees, Tristan Cox scored 19 to win by three from Ed Swarbrick.

Sampson finished nearest the pin on the 9th.

In the Club Championships, Hanson was followed by Jimmy Heard (227) and Reddick (236) in the scratch event.

Reddick (121) also came third in the stableford event.

At the presentation, junior secretary Nick Swarbrick handed out his Milbrae Golfing Society prizes to the most improved junior boy and girl of the season.

The prizes went to Joe Heard and Beth Baker.

Tiverton’s juniors were joint winners of the Henry Truscott Trophy at Dawlish Warren.

Tiverton posted an aggregate of 153 stableford points to tie with Saunton in the county team event, in which five scores count from the six-player teams.

Joe Heard led Tiverton’s charge with 36 and came second in the individual event.

Also making their mark were Jay Scott (31), Jake Reddick (30), Bradley Scott (29) and Joe Pike (27).

Andy Hill came in with 42 points to win the men's November Weekday Stableford on Monday.

Hill, who carded 11 pars, had his handicap cut from 16 to 15 after topping Division One by four from Mike Eastmond.

Lee Arthurs posted 37 to finish one ahead of Anthony Taylor in Division Two.

Results: Division One – 1 Andy Hill (42); 2 Mike Eastmond (38); 3 Terry White (37); 4 Shaun Vickery (37); 5 Nick Walker (37); 6 Dave Chattey (36). Division Two – 1 Lee Arthurs (38); 2 Anthony Taylor (37); 3 Steve Cann (36); 4 Frank Rosamond (35); 5 Ben Daniel (35); 6 Jack Gray (35).

Veterans’ captain Ed Tansey posted 38 stableford points to clinch the Poppy Putter.

The eight-handicapper was assisted by birdies on the 1st and 9th and finished one clear of Roger Millett.

Results: 1 Ed Tansey (38); 2 Roger Millett (37); 3 Mike Hurley (36); 4 Steve Cann (36); 5 Ian Wilson (36); 6 Ray Robinson (35).
