SETTLER Boys have claimed top spot in the Division A of the Sampford and district league after Calverleigh and Elmore Club lost.

Bullocks and HCC1 are still in joint top spot in Division B but All Blacks have moved into third second place. In Division C Huntsham A and Tiverton RBL join Lion Cubs at the top.

DIVISION A: reports – Bellies caught and passed leaders Elmore Club after two legs, taking an 18 pin lead, and when they also pulled 16 pins on the fourth leg it was game over.

Lumberjacks won another home game as they took the points in their game with Bradninch C Club. They team won five of the six legs, with the away team coming good on the last leg.

Though Redwoods and The Hounds shared the first leg, the away team soon put daylight between them and their opponents, claiming two valuable points.

Settler Boys overhauled Castaways as they went into a 26 pin lead after two legs, and things did not get a lot better for the away team. By the end of the fourth leg the game was over. This win keeps the Boys in top spot.

Another of the joint leaders slipped up as Calverleigh lost at home to Brass Monkeys who gratefully took their first win of the campaign. The Monkeys took the lead from the start with the home team always playing catch up.

Globe Appley maintain their joint second place as they win their game with Barmy Army. Though GA were only one point up after two legs, the Army’s next two legs were not enough to be then overtaken by 33 pins, and though the last leg was shared, GA were beyond recall.

In the game between Queen’s Head and Globetrotters Richard Welsh (son) played opposite Colin Welsh (father) and the difference in the family battle – which was won by Richard – was the difference between the teams.
