TIVERTON pair James Lambden and Abbie Moyes won six matches out of six to clinch the prestigious South West Open Winter Foursomes title at Yelverton.

Lambden, a six-handicapper, and Moyes, playing off five, beat Yelverton professional Tim McSherry and club-mate Karl Eastwood 1 up in the final on Sunday.

McSherry and Eastwood, off nine, were 3 up after eight but Lambden and Moyes bounced back to win 11, 13 and 14 to make it all-square.

The match remained level going up the 18th, where Lambden's pitch hit the pin and ended up five feet away for three to secure victory.

The Tiverton duo survived some close matches to make it to the final, including in the first round when Moyes holed her 5-wood second shot for an eagle on the 20th to claim the win.

They also enjoyed 1 up victories in the quarter-finals and semis, where they defeated home players George Graham and Mike Hicks despite having to give 11 shots.

Tony Allsopp and Hannah Carthew won the mixed Goblets at Tiverton after beating Simon Legassick and Sharron Quick 3&2 in the 18-hole final on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Legassick and Quick made it to the final by edging out Nobby and Carol Clarke 1 up.

Allsopp and Carthew had already booked their place the previous weekend after a 1 up victory over John Phripp and Bethany Baker in the greensomes format.

Shaun White and Jim Bray teamed up to win the men's Season Starter competition on Saturday.

White and Bray, who were drawn together at the pre-match meal last Friday, carded a nett score of 65.5 in the American foursomes format.

They won on a countback from Nick Walker and Chem Austin as well as Andy Hill and Dan Smith.

Andy Pryce and Lee Arthurs finished fourth with 66.

Les Hartley carded 42 stableford points to win the veterans' Eddie Baker Trophy on Tuesday.

The 14-handicapper had a birdie on the 12th on his way to a countback victory over Ian Wilson.

Marg Sampson and Bridget Grieve posted 39 stableford points to win the ladies' Australian Spoons qualifier on Wednesday.

Kay Leach and Jan Carroll (36) came second ahead of Alison Hilton and Amanda Moyes (35) and Pauline Hussey and Anto Hajduk (34).

Lawrence Blake won the draw for a free membership for 2014/15 n Alex Held staged a superb finish with an eagle and a birdie in his last four holes to win the John Tallack Trophy at Padbrook Park.

Held birdied the par five 15th before holing his second shot to eagle the par four 17th.

Those shots gained were to prove crucial as he scored 38 stableford points. He edged out Neil Woodman and Barry Colbourne by just a point.

Mark Want leads the Order of Merit thanks to five top ten finishes in six events. Want’s consistent form included victory in the March Stableford.

He now has 40 points giving him a seven point advantage over second placed Alex Held who keeps his father Steve in third place.

The event is still in its early stages with around 20 events still to be played before a winner is decided in October.
