EXETER Chiefs put up a superb fight at holders Leinster in the Heineken Cup yesterday before being edged out 9-6.

A silly second-half offence by prop Ben Moon gave Leinster fly-half Jonathan Sexton the chance to kick his third penalty to win the match.

There was nothing to choose between the sides throughout the 90 minutes.

Two penalties by Chief's Gareth Steenson kept them in the game while Ignacio Mieres had a chance to equalise with the last kick of the match but his difficult long-range effort drifted wide of the posts.

The game was one of attrition with defences well on top. Neither side even threatened to score a try throughout the match.
