FOOTBALL: Tiverton ready for the new season
Tiverton begin their new campaign in division one (South West) of the Southern league with the visit of Abingdon to Ladysmead on Saturday at 3pm.
And with much the same players that finished in ninth place last season, manager Mark Saunders says he is happy with his squad.
Midfielder Danny Clay moved to Weymouth during the summer but Saunders has signed the versatile left-sided player Lewis Tasker.
Tiverton played their final warm-up game against Clay’s new club on Saturday, battling their way to a 0-0 draw at Ladysmead.
On Tuesday the Yellows have another league fixture when they visit Paulton Rovers (7.45pm).
Tiverton line-up against Weymouth: Wright, Concanen (Ad Faux), Tasker, Jee, Kendall, Gardner (Pengelly), Nodwell, Al Faux, Taylor (Ellis), Bushin (Nardiello). Emati-Emati.
WILLAND Rovers find themselves at the foot of the Toolstation Western league’s premier division following three straight defeats.
Their latest setback came on Tuesday when they lost 2-0 at home to Ilfracombe Town.
And unless Willand can avoid a fourth defeat at Brislington on Saturday it will equal the club’s worst run of defeats since joining the Western league.
They are not helped by the absence through injury of Jamie Skinner and Danny Jee however and there were some positives to draw from the Ilfracombe defeat.
Left back Chris Long looks an accomplished defender while Simon Hill was outstanding.
CULLOMPTON Rangers were unable to follow up their 1-0 success at Bovey Tracy on Saturday when they lost 3-0 at home to Launceston in the South West Peninsula league on Tuesday.
On Saturday they visit Camelford (3pm).
CREDITON United have to wait until next Friday (August 24) before they open their SWPL first division campaign at home to Exmouth Town (7.30pm).
