GARY Newall had one person to thank for the superb batting track that helped him roll back the years to score an unbeaten century for Bradninch 2nd XI – he prepared the track himself.

The Kensham Park groundsman has back trouble these days and so only turns out when needs must.

He carried his bat throughout the 46 overs of the game with Barton 2nds in Division A of the Devon Cricket League, striking three sixes in an unbeaten 112.

Chris Acton thumped 47 and the pair putting on 117 for the third wicket as Bradninch closed on 213-3.

Sadly for Newall and his team mates the ton was not to be a winning cause as Barton got home with a couple of wickets and one overs to spare.

In the same division Heathcoat 2nds also suffered a seven wicket defeat although they only managed to score 80 all out against Sandford.

Top scorers for Heathcoat were Parkes (30) and Davis (27). Dixon took 2-31 in Sandford’s reply.
