SIX birdies in the first 12 holes set Nixie Acfield on the way to a victory double in the first men’s medal of the season at Tiverton on Saturday.

In tough, windy conditions, Acfield won the Hutchinson Salver with a nett 67 and the Captain's Qualifier Scratch Cup with his gross 74.

Birdies on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 10th and 12th set up a twoshot victory over Gary Aitchison, Ollie Taylor, Steve Jeffs and Roger Millett in the main competition.

Acfield won the scratch event after a four-hole play-off with Taylor, who also had a gross 74.

Allsopp carded a threeunder nett 71 to finish two ahead of Amanda Moyes in Bronze Division One.

Stacey Ford claimed the scratch prize with a gross 89.

* KAY Leach clinched the ladies' Kirkman Dish on Sunday after a three-way tie at the top.

Leach posted a par score of - 2 to pip Maureen Postles and Rachel Bray on a countback.

* TIVERTON'S ladies beat Fingle Glen 3½-2½ at home in their first Devon League match of the season.

But with away wins counting extra, Fingle Glen edged it by half a point.

Julia Cole (7 and 6), Dori Bracken (5 and 4) and Margot Seamer (1 up) won for the hosts while Chris Williams halved.

* OLLIE Clarke braved the wind and rain to lift the juniors' Green Headland Trophy on Sunday.

The 28-handicapper scored 43 stableford points in his first competition off the white tees.

Charlie Sampson (39) was the runner-up ahead of his older brother George (38).

Maddie Esau won the 11- hole non-CONGU event with 24, beating Bronwyn Ayre by one.

Rees Aitchison (18) won the six-hole competition off the blue tees ahead of Emily Vickery (15).
