NEIL Greening and Alex McFerren surged into the semi-finals of the men’s Winter Foursomes at Tiverton Golf Club after a thumping 7&6 victory over Les Tosdevin and Dean Farmer.

Greening and McFerren will now face Dean Reed and Lawrence Blake, who beat Scottish pair Charlie Durnan and Rob Carlyle in the last eight.

Andy Lovell and Colin Taylor knocked out favourites Andy Brice and Lee Scott 2&1 to seal their place in the semi-final.

They will now meet Colin Baker and Bob Pincombe, who overcame Kevin Mills and Richard Southward.

Richard Furlonger and Rob Mugford linked up with twins Simon and Nick Kelland to win the four-man team event on Saturday with 99 Stableford points.

They finished one ahead of David Wright, Dave Jack, Graham Dyson and Bill Tobin while Peter Anthony, Jon Cockbain, Mark Woodman and Gary Snowdon came third on 95.

Tiverton’s Palairet Trophy squad beat the veterans’ Emerton-Court Trophy side 14-10 in a well-contested practice match.

The match featured fourball better-ball on the front nine and American foursomes on the back nine, with two points available for each.

Maureen Postles and Abbie Moyes teamed up to win the ladies 18-hole Odds and Evens competition.

They scored 54 stableford points to finish two clear of ladies captain Sue Norris and youngster Stacey Ford.

In the 11-hole competition, Christine Norton and Kathryn Hall led the way with 32.

Sheila Ball and Anto Hajduk came second with 31, ahead of Marjorie Southall and Kay Leach (30), Nicola Chilcott and Sue Buchanan (30) and Marian Stevens and Karen Allsopp (28).

David Hazlewood fired 41 Stableford points to win the veterans’ fourth Duckworth Salver event.

The 22-handicapper finished one ahead of David Wright, Tony Evans and Ray Robinson.
