Tiverton ABC's Corey Westbrook has missed out on claiming the Western Counties Schoolboy title by the narrowest of margins.
He was pipped 3-2 on the computer scoring system by City of Gloucester boxer Reece Connor at Bideford on Sunday afternoon.
Westbrook started well and led 1-0 after the first round.
Both boxers scored in the second round, which ended 2-2 and Connor seemed to catch Westbrook right on the bell in the third to take the title.
Tiverton coach Paul Harvey said: “Corey should be proud of his performance. He gave his all and this is the second time in two years he has got to the Western Counties final.
“Next year could be third time lucky – he deserves it for all his dedication and gard work.”
THREE Tiverton boxers - Corey Westbrook, Jack Knapton and Sam Parkins – will travel to Bristol to train with the Western Counties squad on February 7.
