Somerset County League Premier Division.

Cleeve West Town 0, Taunton Blackbrook 1.

BLACKBROOK extended their unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions after Graham Parkinson's first goal for the club gave them a hard-earned victory at struggling Cleeve on Saturday.

Matt Francis had a shot well saved in the tenth minute while Cleeve's first chance came on the half hour when a forward lobbed keeper Wayne Lawrence but captain Martin White got back to head the ball over the bar.

Full-back Parkinson, nicknamed Parky, and Darren Rice both had good chances but shot narrowly wide as the first half stayed goalless.

The only goal arrived on 51 minutes when Parkinson, in his first season with Blackbrook, surged forward and hammered in a left-foot shot.

Blackbrook played some good, confident football and held firm to notch a second successive clean sheet, which confirmed their position in fourth place.

Club secretary Rod Pepperell said: “They had chances early on but our midfield and defence played very well. We were well worth our win.

“Cleeve are second bottom but I can't understand why. They are quite a good team.”

Blackbrook travel to third-placed Frome Town Reserves on Wednesday, when a victory for either side will take them top.

Blackbrook are away at Glastonbury Town on Saturday, when they are also co-hosting a race night with Taunton Town at Wordsworth Drive.

The first race is at 8pm and anybody interested can turn up on the night. The event is a fundraiser for both clubs.
