SOMERSET CCC hope a new cricket academy in Bristol will help them uncover four to five great new prospects in the next ten years – including another Marcus Trescothick.

Somerset are using the new facilities at Merchants Academy, the former Withywood School, as their base to coach youngsters unable to travel to Taunton.

Trescothick was spotted playing for Keynsham and Somerset believe there is more undiscovered talent in the north of the county.

Marketing executive Tony Wright said the new facilities were first class.

He said: “A great deal of money has been invested in creating the cricket centre.

“It will not only be used by Somerset to bring on its young prospects but the nets will also be available for local clubs and organisations.”

The cricket nets are the latest addition to the excellent facilities there, which include two sports halls, a new gymnasium and a dance studio.
