NEIL Hancock and Les Oaten scored 43 points to win Saturday's Better Ball Stableford Pairs competition at Taunton Vale.

The winning duo finished two ahead of second placed Kevin Lewis and Frank Penny, while Steve Cridge and Rob Hodge were third with 40.

Geoff Hill headed Division One of Sunday's Bogey competition with +5, but only after countback edged him in front of reigning club champion Curtis Edwards.

Mark Bradford came out on top in Division Two with +4, two ahead of second-placed Paul Clarke, with Phil Contreras third with +1.

Vale's veterans (over 70s) held their annual lunch and prizegiving in the clubhouse last Friday.

Prior to the lunch, a cheque for £400 for St. Margaret's Hospice was presented to Jenny Pym.

Following an enjoyable lunch, presentations were made to winners of the Singles Knockout Danny Bray, Pairs Knockout Brian Adams and Bob Pym, Running Stableford David Durant, Annual Medal Eclectic gross Dennis Mathers, net John Chedzoy and veteran of the year Ted Collins.

JEFF Dyke and Cliff Phur won hampers after claiming joint top spot in the Pickeridge Christmas Fayre Stableford last Saturday, which featured a field of 94.

They both scored 41 points to share first place and win their respective divisions.

Lennox Heath adjusted best to the appalling conditions to win Pickeridge's Ladies Stableford last Tuesday. Lennox scored 36 points and was closely followed by Val Hayward who was a point back.
