IT was KO Cup quarter-finals weekend in the Tony Pryce Taunton and District Youth League, with sides fighting it out to reach the last four.

GALMINGTON Dragons gave higher division Minehead A a fright in the Under-12 KO Cup, before going out 4-3 after extra-time in an excellent game.

The game stood at 2-2 after 90 minutes and, although Galmington took the lead in extra-time, Minehead went through with two goals. Mark Cornish (2) and Rhys Elliott were on target for Galmington.

Lydeard joined Minehead in the next round thanks to a 6-1 win at home to Holway United. Jordan Clapp and Lloyd Cuthbert scored two apiece with Sam Hallett and Dan Rottenbury also on target.

Wellington led Heathfield 3-1 but the Taunton side hit back to force extra-time. After a goalless extra period, Heathfield went though 5-4 on penalties.

In the other tie, Tiverton defeated Watchet 8-1.

BLACKBROOK Gunners fired themselves into the semi-finals of the U-11 Cup with a 13-1 victory at home to Staplegrove. Ryan Clothier scored five of the goals, with Harry Horton (3), Josh Hayward (2), Lewis Waldy (2) and Connor Harris also on the scoresheet.

S. Day and O. Hall scored two apiece for Bishops Lydeard in their 4-0 at home to Holway and Wellington Falcons won 5-2 at home to Watchet with B. Evett, T. Hawkins (3) and G. Hodgson getting the goals. C. Shopland and K. Wilson netted for Watchet.

Twyford Spartans also made it through.

STAPLEGROVE U-16s transferred their league form into the cup, winning 8-0 at home to Wellington Wolves. Mike Perry led the way with a hat-trick and there were also goals for George Whiting (2), Dan Cox, Nick Izzard and Sam Mockridge.

JOE Wilkinson had his shooting boots on for Staplegrove U-15s hitting five as they cruised into the semi-finals of the KO Cup with a 13-0 victory at home to Bridgwater Rhode Lane. There was also a hat-trick for Steve Tilley, with Vik Lantz getting two, Sam Hall, Grant Whitear and Jake Evans one apiece.

They will be joined the next round by Heathfield, Wessex and Watchet.

JUST one quarter-final was played in the U-14 section as county Lewin Cup matches were also being played. That saw Moors defeat North Petherton 5-3.

BISHOPS Lydeard had the biggest win of the round in the U-13 KO Cup. They won 7-1 at home to local rivals Staplegrove, but Blackbrook Pirates were not far behind, defeating Churchinford 7-2.

Galmington Dragons and Wembdon also made it through with wins against Moors Youth and Minehead A respectively.
