BLUNDELL’s Under-14 girls defeated the Queen’s School, Chester to reach the national schools finals to be played later this month at London’s Olympic Park.

After finishing second in the West of England tournament in November, Blundell’s were drawn against Queen’s (second in the North of England tournament) in a play-off match. Blundell’s were drawn as the away team and therefore had to make the five hour journey to Cheshire. After a significant delay to the start time due to a frozen pitch, the girls eventually began and initially struggled to find their rhythm due to the awkward surface. A superb individual effort from captain Millie Atwell broke the deadlock and the score was 1-0 at half time with both teams having had chances to score.

In the second half, Blundell’s controlled the game and goals from Rebecca Hamilton and Beatrix Nicholson meant that Blundell’s won an exciting close game 3-2.

The squad of 14 – Imi Hamilton-Green, Niamh Wright, Tabi Vause, Amelia Low, Serena Mundy, Emily Lowe, Grace Francis, Beatrix Nicholson, Sparkle Menzies, Kinna Yewdall, Maddie Wright, Sophie Clough, Rebecca Hamilton, and captain Millie Atwell – all contributed to the team’s success and were superb ambassadors for the School on and off the field.

The Blundell’s team are one of eight teams who will be competing for the national title.
