MIKE Collins of the Bellies recorded the highest individual score for four years in Division A of the Sampford Peverell and district league.

Collins scored a five-spare 94 – following the 100 notched by Bellies’ Gary Cross in 2010/11.

The record remains the 102 by Pete Lewis of Globetrotters in 2008/9. DIVISION A: results – Elmore Club 390, Calverleigh 342; Bradninch C Club 489, Bellies 510; Globe Appley B 406, Lumberjacks 391; The Hounds, bye; Settler Boys 391, Redwoods 361; Brass Monkeys 386, Globe Appley 363; Barmy Army 435, Queens Head 365; Castaways 347, Globetrotters 337.

High Scores: 94 – M Collins (Bellies, five spares); 74 – E Andress (Bradninch C Club, three spares); 72 – F Froom (Barmy Army, three spares); 70 – M Long (Bellies, three spares); 69 – L Holmes (Bellies, three spares); 66 – D Foan (Bradninch C Club, three spares) Reports: The battle for clear second spot took place between Elmore Club and Calverleigh and that honour was taken by the former. The away team never really got going, and two big middle legs put the home team in command.

Alhough Bradninch C Club were ahead of Bellies after two legs, the latter overtook the home team after a fourth leg of 94 followed by 103, and there was no coming back for The Cricketers. Mike Collins scored a five spare 94.

Globe Appley B did enough by winning the first three legs against Lumberjacks. They lost the fourth by one pin, the fifth was shared and the Jacks won the last, but Lumberjacks’ efforts were in vain.

Settler Boys stay clear top of the league after beating Redwoods. It was not all plain sailing as the first and third legs were shared and the Boys lost the second. But they finally got their act together and won the last three.

Two successive wins for Brass Monkeys will do their confidence no harm at all. This week they took the points off Globe Appley, winning five of the legs.

Barmy Army hammered Queens Head, winning all six legs. Man of the match was F Froom with a three-spare 72.

A close game between Castaways and Globetrotters went the home team’s way as they did their work in the first two legs, going ahead by 18 pins. The third leg was shared and the away team won the last three, just failing to catch up.

DIVISION B: results – Barley Mow, bye; HCC1 324, Oggies 343; Crossways 416, Bickleigh 406; The Merriemeade 384, All Blacks 419; The Beare 355, The Agri-Nuts 339; Ayshford Arms 399, Bradninch RBL 381; Uplowman 386, Roy’s Rebels 369; Bullocks 365, The Ponies 378.

High Scores: 69 – P Campbell (Crossways, three spares).

Reports: HCC1 struggled from the off against Oggies who took the first four rubs to gain a 19 pin lead and as they shared the final two rubs the lead remained unaltered.

Crossways gained a nice 15 pin win over Bickleigh even though they had only seven players. Anchor man P Campbell covering the missing player with a three-spare 69.

The Merriemeade’s dip in form continues as leaders All Blacks took an easy away win, dropping pins in only the first leg.

The Beare continued their climb up the table with a 16 pin win over struggling Agri-Nuts who could not catch the home side from the offset.

Ayshford Arms took advantage of a lapse in concentration by Bradninch RBL in the middle rubs to gain 25 pins and give them an 18 pin victory.

Uplowman managed to pull pins on each visit to the alley against Roy’s Rebels, resulting in a 17 pin win and a much-needed two points.

Bullocks took a 13 pin lead against The Ponies but the away side soon picked up the pace and quickly overtook the home side to win by a not so unlucky 13.

DIVISION C: results – Ashill Inn 398, The Travellers 396; Halfway House 409, Huntsham A 342; Booze Cruzers 426, Heathcoat Hulas 382; Catherine Wheel 362, The Farmers 368; Rose & Crown 390, Tiverton RBL 379.

High Scores: 66 – Marc Gubb (Booze Cruzers, three spares).

Reports: Ashill Inn had a close game against The Travellers, winning by two pins. Ashill were 16 down after three legs, but came back strongly and were set a target of 65 in the last leg to win. They just managed it with 66 to take their first victory in four games.

Halfway House had a massive 77 pin win at home to Huntsham A. The home team took all six legs and finished off with a 78 last leg to leave them out of sight.

Booze Cruzers eased to a 44 pin win at home to Heathcoat Hulas. HH found themselves 30 pins down after the first two legs and managed just one leg win in the fourth. The win keeps Booze Cruzers in contention, a couple of points behind the leaders.

Catherine Wheel were on the wrong end of a stunning performance from The Farmers. Farmers, on first, had the home team on the back foot after a 75 pin second leg. That put Catherine Wheel 19 behind and although they chipped away at the Farmers’ lead, they could not pull enough.

Rose and Crown had a ten pin home win against Tiverton RBL to take them to just two points behind their guests. R&C found themselves 23 adrift after the first two legs. They soon found their feet though and took the next two to be seven down with two legs to play. Although the visitors took the fifth, R&C had given RBL a tough challenge with a 77 last leg and the visitors fell short.
