MID Devon bowlers lost 98-54 in the Over-60s County Trophy.

Home rinks: Dave Harvey, Brian Wood, Lloyd Daniels, Brian Poole 24-19; Melvyn Hudd, Harry McGeehan, Bob Pulsford, Alec Collard 12-31; away rinks: Henry Cruwys, Tony Lloyd, Terry Gilbert, John Griffin 8-24; Ray White, Tony Woollacott, Peter Ball, Dave Robinson 10-24.

Fortunes changed on Saturday when the men won the first round of the Denny Cup against a very strong South Hams team by 87-61.

It was a very good performance by the away rinks winning one rink by 13 shots and drawing the other.

They were well supported by the home rinks who both recorded wins.

Mid Devon have been rewarded with a match against Dawlish in the next round on November 15.

In the national competitions wins were recorded by Beryl Willis, Gill Callaghan and Christina Woollacott who travelled to Exmouth Madeira and played a triple skipped by Sue Herriot and came home with a 16-14 victory.

In the national men’s pairs Mid Devon’s Jonathan Hoaen and Phil Atkins won at Honiton 24-14 against Kieran Daniels.
