MID Devon progressed to the next round of the Egham Trophy with a 79-70 win over Torbay.

The home rinks, skipped by Phil Atkins and David Hoaen, romped home by 30 shots with all Mid Devon players having good games.

Mid Devon now meet Exonia on November 9.

Home scores: Greta Dommett, Beryl Willis, Lloyd Daniels and David Hoaen won 28-5; Gil Callaghan, Christina Woollacott, Jonathan Hoaen and Phil Atkins won 22-15; away rinks: Janet Cox, Jan Griffin, Bob Pulsford and Alec Collard lost 18-23; Shirley Cruwys, Janice Robinson, Dave Robinson and John Griffin lost 11-27. Mid Devon Ladies bowed out of the Yetton Trophy with an 88-61 defeat at the hands of Torbay.

Maureen Robertson was successful at Torbay with 18-15 win over Anita Huxtable and Christina Woollacott’s rink managed an 18-18 draw at home.

Simon Stevens and Ian Bond (Exonia) won their National Pairs against Dave P. Smith and John Griffin (Mid Devon) 41-5.

It was a very one sided game with the home side taking a shot on the first end and then the Exonia Pair treated the Mid Devon spectators to an immaculate display of precision bowling winning the next 12 ends to storm into a unbeatable 33-1 lead.

Their efforts included a wonderful maximum eight shots on the tenth end when all eight bowls were within two feet of the jack.

The Mid Devon finally conceded on the 18th end.

Gill Callaghan of Mid Devon lost away in the national ladies singles to Mary Wakley of ISCA 21-16 in a match that lasted 28 ends.
