PADBROOK Park's seniors narrowly missed out on victory in the final of the Emerton Court Trophy.

They lost 3.5 -1.5 to Staddon Heights at Churston but the match could very easily have gone the other way.

It was Padbrook's first final and they came up against a club who had reached that stage four times before.

Ray Cavill and Ray Williams won their game 2&1. They enjoyed a two hole lead by the 15th and halves on the 16th and 17th holes saw the point secured.Duncan Hepburn and John Locke won the ninth to go one up. They held that lead until losing the 17th but a half on the last hole secured a half point.

Gordon Campbell and John Bowden won the 8th hole with a two to be one up at the turn. They held that lead with two holes to play but heartbreakingly they lost the 17th and 18th to lose by one hole.

Jim Kennard and Stuart Penfold were never able to recover from being two down at the run and went down 4&2.

Dave Turner and John Emerton lost three of the first four hole but recovered to be just one down at the halfway stage. But they eventually went down 4&3.

Padbrook Senior Captain Dave Turner said: "It could have been so different. We are disappointed today but we must remember the scale of the achievement to have reached the final in this Devon wide event. I am so proud of what the players have achieved."
