TIVERTON schoolboy Callum Chard-Maple has been crowned British BMX champion for the third year running.

The eight-year-old, representing Tiverton BMX Club, earned his latest title in Manchester.

Callum, who goes to Castle Primary School, has enjoyed another highly successful season, retaining both the regional championship and the South-West championship on his way to British honours.

Callum also took on a new challenge this race season with the British BMX series, otherwise known as the national title. It consists of ten rounds at different tracks all over the country – and shone throughout.

Callum’s mother Michelle said: “Callum’s dad Darren and myself would like to say a big thank you to Tiverton BMX club, The Bike Shop, Green Machine and all involved in CCM Racing.

“We are immensely proud of what Callum has achieved over the last three years.

“To retain a British championship title like he did is absolutely amazing to then go on and win the national title in his first year of taking part is very hard to do.”

“Nothing phases Callum when he is on the race track. He keeps a calm head and it pays off.”

Callum, who has been racing every since he learned to ride without stabilisers at the age of four, also paid special thanks to his father.

He said: “I couldn’t have done it without him. He is my team mate, thanks dad.”
