JEVAN Cockbain, Tiverton Weightlifting Club’s 15-year-old power lifter, continued his streak of outstanding form by bagging two South-West records on his way to another victory.

Cockbain was competing at the BDFPA Mid-Year Championships in Plymouth. Once again he found himself to be the youngest entrant and again showed the gathered audience of his burgeoning potential.

He made the weight at 75kg for the last time, lifting unequipped in the T1 (14-15-year-old class).

The competition started with the Back Squat discipline where his third good lift got him a splendid 137.5kgs.

The Bench Press saw him push up a steady 77.5kgs for his third lift finish.

In the Dead Lift he broke the South-West record with an impressive 177.5kgs – which was 12.5kgs clear of the previous recorded best. That made sure of a new South-West total figure of 392.5kgs, which added 5kgs to the previous mark.
