4:00pm Friday 23rd May 2014 in Sport
JIM Bray fired a three-under gross 68 for a nett 65 to win the men’s Amory Cup at Tiverton on Saturday.
Bray birdied the first four holes to go four under par and bounced back from bogeys on the 6th, 10th and 12th to finish with birdies on the 15th and 18th.
Bray, who had his handicap cut from three to two, won by two from Neil Carthew, Charlie Sampson and Tony Allsopp.
John Phripp, Joe Heard and Bradley Scott all finished on 68.
Bray also claimed the Amory Scratch Cup with his gross 68, finishing two ahead of Allsopp, who broke par as well with a 70.
Results: 1 Jim Bray (68-3=65); 2 Neil Carthew (82-15=67); 3 Charlie Sampson (83-16=67); 4 Tony Allsopp (70-3=67); 5 John Phripp (78-10=68); 6 Joe Heard (86-18=68); 7 Bradley Scott (78-10=68); 8 Pete Jones (77-8=69); 9 Jake Reddick (82-13=69); 10 Harry Brown (85-16=69).
Tiverton’s nominated three-man contingent of Harry Konig, Rhys Cruse and Tom Trowbridge finished a very creditable third in the Devon Club Team Championship at RND on Saturday.
The trio recorded a score of +26 over the first two rounds of the Devon Amateur Championship.
Konig led the way with 74 and 70 to finish level par while Cruse scored 74 and 81 (+11) and Trowbridge carded 85 and 74 (+15).
All three players made the cut and Konig picked up a £75 voucher for coming third in the Gold Medal.
After the final 36 holes on Sunday, Konig finished 10th on +8 (74, 70, 77, 75), Cruse came 19th on +16 (74, 81, 74, 75) and Trowbridge was 32nd on +25 (85, 74, 75, 79).
Tiverton moved into the third round of the Emerton-Court Trophy – Devon’s inter-club knock-out tournament for veterans – after beating Woodbury Park 6-4 on aggregate.
After a 4-1 victory at home last week, Tiverton lost a nervy second leg 3-2 on Wednesday which was enough to put them through.
Tony and Jan Carroll scored 37 stableford points to win The Chalices on Sunday.
