EXETER were beaten 14-9 at Sandy Park by reigning champions Toulon in Pool 2 of the Heineken Cup yesterday.
The Chiefs led 9-8 at half time thanks to two penalties by Gareth Steenson and one from Henry Slade In the second half Jonny Wilkinson missed three successive penalties before Matt Giteau slotted over to make Toulon's pressure pay.
Then Wilkinson landed a drop-goal before his side ground out the final minutes.
The result leaves Exeter third in the pool with one win from three matches.
