VETERANS Gerry Franklin and Ron Stonebridge posted a medalford score of 12 to win the third qualifier for the men’s Winter Foursomes at Tiverton on Saturday.

Roger Millett and Les Hartley (13) finished second while Peter Boax and Dean Farmer (13) were third.

The top eight pairs qualified for the knock-out stages, which start in January.

Steve Lucas and Nick Lear (16) came fourth on a countback from Shaun Vickery and Robert Mugford plus Patrick Ellis and Adrian Tyrrell.

Roger Stevens and Kevin Ruscoe (17) and Richard Colman and Tony Lavery (17) also made it into the last 32.

Tony Allsopp was nearest the pin on the ninth while Norman Ford claimed the prize on the 14th.

Shaun White and Steve Garland plundered 44 Stableford points to win the men’s fourball better-ball competition.

Andy Ogden and Lawrence Blake were runners-up with 43 while Jay Buckingham and Jimmy Heard (40) came third on a countback from Danny McArdle and John Court plus Mike Holder and Mike Eastmond.

Alison Hilton, Chris Williams and Dori Bracken came in with 63 Stableford points over 11 holes to win the ladies’ yellow ball team event.

Ann Fielding, Bridget Holland and Annette Cardwell came second with 59, edging out Christine Norton, Teresa Birchmore and Liz Hall on a countback.
