EXETER City beat League 2 promotion rivals Northampton 3-0 at St James' Park yesterday.

Exeter took the lead in the 22nd minute when Cobblers' keeper Lee Nicholls fumbled Craig Woodman's corner into his own net.

Nicholls denied Cureton when he was clean through before Arron Davies missed an open goal following another error from the keeper.

Veteran striker Jamie Curiton glanced home Matt Oakley's free-kick in the 59th minute to take his personal tally for the season to 20.

Then Jake Gosling wrapped things up with the third seven minutes from time.

The result sees Exeter rise to fourth, a point off the automatic promotion places.
