COLIN Carey won the battle with his son Steve to move into the semi-finals of the men’s Winter Foursomes at Tiverton.

Colin linked up with Steve Buchanan to pip Steve and Peter Garnsworthy on the 18th on Saturday.

David Jack and Ron Stonebridge will meet Ian Budden and Tim Durrant in the quarter-finals for the right to face Carey and Buchanan.

In the bottom half of the draw, Tony Sykes and Mike Cottrell will take on Tim Thompson and Jimmy Heard while Kevin Ruscoe and Dale Flint will go up against Noel Thomas and David Wright.

Ryan Allington, a prospective new member, picked up a prize in his first ever competition as he and Sam Heard scored 31 to finish second.

Grace Jackson and Leon Hogan (31) came third ahead of Ben Hearn and Dan Brooks (28), Eddie Sangster and Alex Trepess (28), Bethany Baker and Maddie Esau (26) and Tom Roberts and Seamus O'Kelly (26).

Heard was nearest the pin on the 4th on a day when 42 juniors took part.
