ZACK Jones of Tiverton ABC lost a majority verdict in the quarter-finals of the ABA schooolboy championships in London.

Jones, who was matched against London champion Nevile Smith from Epsom and Ewell put in a brilliant effort but lost after a very technical bout.

Tiverton coach Paul Harvey said: “Zack did himself proud against a very good boxer who showed him a lot of respect. On another day Zack may have got the decision but that’s boxing.

“Zack’s showing plenty of promise and it will be interesting to see how far he goes next year in the ABAs. He has got all the attributes of being an outstanding boxer.”
