I was angered by the comments on fox-hunting (Guardian 31 May) by the Conservative candidate for Croydon Central.
If Mr Congdon “loves animals”, then how can he possibly condone fox-hunting just because it has been around for a “very long time”?
People have been murdering each other in this world for a very long time but that does not mean it's ok to do so!
I'm all for democracy and preserving tradition, but I think this is an out-dated practice that 21st century Britain can do without.
I'm fed up with hearing feeble excuses in favour of fox-hunting suggesting that it is a sport' or it preserves the countryside' etc.
The fact remains that it is barbaric and no amount of excuses can convince me otherwise.
In light of the foot and mouth epidemic I think we as an intelligent race of people should look very carefully at our treatment of animals, as we have a duty to respect every creature that we share the land with.
We have to realise that if we continue to put our own way of life before nature and the environment then in the long run we will suffer the consequences.
