Tiverton flower vandal identified by town action group

A VANDAL who trashed Tiverton 's floral displays just before the Britain in Bloom judging has been identified thanks to the town's local action group.

The Exe Local Action Group, part of the East and Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership, recently met to discuss crime and anti-social behaviour issues in Tiverton and the surrounding parishes.

It was during this meeting that an individual who had been filmed destroying the town's flower arrangements was identified.

Cllr Janet Rendle said: “A cross section of those working in the community regularly come together to discuss how we might improve matters relating to crime and anti-social behaviour. At our recent meeting we talked about how we can support the young people of Tiverton by making leisure and social activities more accessible via the refurbished youth centre in Bolham Road. “We also looked at how we could better promote the positive work of the town CCTV system. Indeed, as a direct result of networking at the meeting an offender was identified via CCTV footage decimating the towns floral displays just prior to the Britain in Bloom judging. This was a very positive result and shows how well this partnership working can help solve and prevent crime.”

Any member of the community, community organisations or parish council that wish to raise an issue with the group can do so by contacting Janet Rendle on 01884-254914 or Julia Ryder the community safety officer for Mid Devon on 01884-234997. Julia Ryder added: “We look at local issues of concern and put actions in place to resolve them, but also we raise awareness of prevention and support services available for the public.”
