Blundell's pupils selected for Olympic Guard of Honour
12:02pm Thursday 28th June 2012 in Tiverton
PUPILS at Blundell’s Prep School in Tiverton have been selected to form part of the Guard of Honour at the athletes’ parade as part of the London Olympics.
The children will line the route as athletes make their way through the Olym-pic park into the Olympic stadium for the games’ opening ceremony.
They will join 249 other schools from across the UK to make up the 2,000-strong student Guard of Honour holding self-made lanterns.
For many of the 10,500 athletes the Guard of Honour will be their first experience of the London 2012 Games.
The school has been selected through the reward and recognition programme of the Get Set network, the official Lon-don 2012 education programme.
They have demonstrated a commitment to living the Olympic and Para-lympic values, and incorporating them into their school lives and curriculum.
The children will also get the chance to tour the Olympic park and see some of the London 2012 venues.
The pupils have been preparing by learning about the cultures and athletes of the St Kitts and Nevis team.
They also held their own celebrations for London 2012 in a world sport day on June 25 and an Olympic day on June 26.
