THE Territorial Army is launching a recruitment campaign in Tiverton this weekend aimed at encouraging men and women of all ages to find out more about serving in the Reserve Forces. With the Territorial Army (TA) set to double in size by 2015 and a £1.5 billion investment from the Government on the way, the TA wants to recruit around 600 extra soldiers in the South West over the next few years.

Soldiers from the Royal Wessex Yeomanry’s D Squadron will be in Lowman Green on the next three Saturdays throughout April to highlight career opportunities in the TA and share their own experiences of combining a civilian job with life in the Armed Forces.

Captain Clive Pearce, from the Royal Wessex Yeomanry, said: “Reserve service offers the best of both worlds to people who find the idea of Army life appealing, and the leadership skills gained are highly valued by civilian employers. And in this economic climate, being part of the TA can offer a vital source of income too.” Dance teacher Emma Manning, 22, who joined the TA three years ago and is now training to be a qualified combat medical technician with the Royal Wessex Yeomanry, explained: “Throughout my training I have enjoyed the sense of achievement I gain from overcoming challenges, both physical and mental, individually and together as a team. The people I have met and worked with are from different walks of life but we all muck in together and have a laugh in order to complete tasks. These people are the most interesting, dedicated and genuine individuals I have come across.” For more information, visit Lowman Green on Saturday, April 14, 21 and 28 from 8.30am to 4pm or call Captain Clive Pearce on 01271-345471.
