A TECHNICIAN at Petroc in Tiverton expects to raise around £400 for charity from his failed bid to book a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Richard Graham took on the ‘Tube Challenge’ – a bid to travel between and through all 270 stations on the London Underground network in the shortest time possible.

He left Amersham at 5.30am and didn’t finish his attempt until arriving at Heathrow at 11.30 at night.

His efforts were hampered by signalling failures and he only managed to visit 238 of the 270 stations.

Richard, who is a digital media technician at the college, said: “It was a bit of a disappointment that I didn’t complete but I was expecting to beat the record and I will definitely try it again.

“I will have to get in the gym though as it was even tougher than I thought it would be.

“Running a mile between North Harrow and Rayners Lane at seven in the morning was a bit of a shock to the system.”

Richard was joined for the day by Andi James, the current world record holder, who completed the challenge in a time of 16 hours 44 minutes with two others in December.

Richard’s attempt was in aid of Tearfund, a Christian charity dedicated to transforming lives and helping to overcome global poverty.
