THE FIRST fishing competition held at West Pitt Farm in Tiverton has been hailed a success The day attracted 20 boys and two girls aged between seven and 15 who all had an excellent time.

Despite being a competition, the children took time to help each other - especially when it came to landing a large carp.

After four hours of fishing the results were:

Best total weight

1st 15lb Rachel Frampton age nine

2nd 14lb 13 Ryan Tedder age 13

3rd 14lb 1 Slade Stevens age 11

Rachel also had the best individual weight, a 7lb mirror carp.

Awards also went to Jodie Fagg, age seven, and Nick Bond, age 13, for demonstrating care and handling of the fish.

Lewis Scarff who came 4th got special mention too as he gave up fishing time to help Rachel land a carp.

Rachel Frampton collected an application for the competition from her school, Castle Primary and decided to have a go.

She said: "I was very nervous but Mum said to just enjoy the day. Dad suggested using maggots and I caught a 7lb mirror carp. It was a lovely day, we had fun and I made new friends.

"I can't believe I did so well!"

This is the first of two competitions at West Pitt, the next will be held on Sunday, September 16.
