THE TIVERTON Allotment Association is holding an open day to spark some new interest.

The Pinnex Allotment site on Park Road will be open to the public on Wednesday, August 10, from 6pm until 8pm.

The aim of the open day is to show interested people the benefits of having an allotment.

People can chat over a tea or coffee to current allotment holders about what is involved.

Chairman of the association, Ian Johnson said: "We are very lucky in Tiverton to have six good sites provided by the Town Council, and there are usually a few vacancies every year.

"Having an allotment not only provides fresh fruit and vegetables, but also helps to keep people healthy and fit and we are a very friendly lot of people."

The open day is being organised as part of the National Allotments Week running from August 8 until 14.

The Growing Together theme for the national week aims to draw attention to the inclusive nation of allotment gardening as it can be appealing to all sections of society, from the unemployed to the professional, and all levels of ability.
