MANY Tiverton visitors and residents will be aware of the Community Safety pop-up shop on Bampton Street.

The shop has been open for a limited period to give free information and advice on a wide range of topics including scams.

The temporary shop is to open its doors for the very last time on Thursday, August 6 and there is an open invitation from the staff to visit for a free coffee and cake to say good bye.

Julia Ryder, Community Safety Officer said, “The shop has been a great success and we have been able to offer lots of support and advice about scams, on-line safety and general crime prevention.

"We have sold over thirty call blocking devices to residents who want to put a stop to nuisance and telesales calls."

In the weeks that the shop has been open the Fire Service have taken around 250 referrals from homeowners that wish to take up the offer of a free fire home safety check that also includes carbon monoxide emissions and fire evacuations routes.

Julia continued: “We would like to thank everyone in the community for their support, as well as the staff from the wide variety of agencies that have helped keep the shop open, so we thought we would have a last day coffee morning.

"We will offer free coffee and cakes to anyone who wishes to pop in and say goodbye on August 6 between 10am and midday.”

Community Safety advice is still available on both the Mid Devon District Council and the Devon & Cornwall Police websites.

Call blocking devices remain available at the subsidised price of £29 and are available to purchase from Mid Devon District Council Offices in Tiverton and Crediton.
