TIVERTON-based pregnancy and postnatal community interest company, Healthy Babies UK, has recently completed a renovation thanks to the £1,000 worth of building materials they received as beneficiaries of RGB Building Supplies’ ‘Well Built Community Fund’.

The grant has enabled the group, which offers a number of parenting services, to make essential repairs to their building to help with damp and draft problems.

As Healthy Babies UK works out of a listed building, it was difficult to find conventional secondary glazing to fit the drafty and misshapen windows.

Their builder therefore used the Well Built Community Fund grant to purchase Perspex, as it can be cut to size, which he fitted to five of the main windows using magnetic strips.

The group is looking to do something similar around their fireplaces. Additionally, the grant paid for damp areas to be fixed and also decorating materials.

Jodie Mortimore from Healthy Babies UK said: “We are thrilled with the work that has been carried out.

“In the future, we would like to set up a satellite human milk donor bank to support sick and low birth weight babies who are in intensive care, so being able to fix the draft and damp problems was really important to us.

“We would like to say a big thank you to RGB Building Supplies for choosing us as beneficiaries of the Community Fund, it has certainly made a massive difference.”

Geoff Dobbs, Branch Manager at RGB Tiverton, said: “Well done to Healthy Babies UK. I’m delighted that the £1,000 worth of building materials has helped fix the problems and I wish them every success with their future projects.”

Based on Barrington Street, Healthy Babies UK currently offers a number of parenting services such as breastfeeding support, antenatal classes, tongue tie clinic, coffee mornings and sling meet groups.

To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, Healthy Babies UK is holding two events and inviting local parents along.

On Monday, August 3 there will be a Picnic in the Park at West Exe Park between 11am and 1pm. Then on Friday, August 7, there will be a pamper day at their headquarters, Honeysuckle House, between 1pm and 4pm.
