MID Devon District Council has adopted a new Conservation Area in the east of Tiverton.

Following public consultation in April and May 2014, the Blundell's Conservation Area was adopted by Full Council on September 3 and is the 51st in the District.

Conservation Areas are special groups of buildings or areas designated for their architectural quality, including trees and open spaces.

They ensure that extra emphasis is given to their special character, history and development, and also to their preservation or enhancement when making decisions about planning, highways, improvement schemes etc.

The Blundell's Conservation Area has a strong character, with beautiful specimen trees, tree lined roads and good 19th and 20th century houses and school buildings.

Conservation Officer Catherine Marlow said: “This is a very beautiful part of Tiverton. The school in particular is of huge importance to the town's history and with its lovely setting really makes a great contribution to the town.”

The new Conservation Area includes the whole Blundell's School complex and residential housing along Blundell's Avenue, Blundell's Road, parts of Tidcombe Lane and Coleman Close including the Grade II Listed Great Gornhay Farm as well as including Paradise Wood and the Old Railway Walk.
