Funeral parlour sells for £85,000

A FORMER funeral parlour in Cullompton has gone under the auctioneer’s hammer for £85,000.

The Old Malthouse at Cockpit Hill, previously the premises of Hellier and Sons Funeral Services, was among 35 lots being sold through regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson on Wednesday.

The ‘L’-shaped two-storey building, freehold, has office space, storage areas and a one-bedroom upstairs flat. Graham Barton, auctioneer and regular on BBC1’s Homes Under the Hammer, said: “Even though there were initial issues with the title to the property, the potential for the building, which contained construction techniques and materials from each of the three or four past centuries, shone through, hence the very spirited bidding.”
