OVER 40 dogs were microchipped in Tiverton on Wednesday as part of a series of events run by Mid Devon District Council.

The service normally costs £15 through the council, but was provided at a subsidised price of £5 at Tiverton Pannier Market for local dog owners.

Dogs are required by law to wear a collar and tag with their details, and staff advised owners on the importance of this.

Council dog warden Linda Hearn said: “It was a brilliant success. A chip lasts a lifetime as long as owners keep the details up to date, but it doesn’t replace the need for a collar and tag.”

Owners can have their dogs chipped at Tiverton Pannier Market next Wednesday, June 13, and at the Blue Cross Centre near Bickleigh on Wednesday, June 20.

Cullompton Town Council has also organised for a dog warden to be available at the annual town fayre and dog show at Community Association Fields.
