A LEADING bus operator has made a U-turn on plans to stop services to a densely-populated area of Cullompton.

Residents were up in arms over Stagecoach Devon’s proposals to cut Swallow Way, Langlands Road and Tiverton Road from its 1B service from the beginning of next month.

The changes would have resulted in buses being sent down Forcefield Road and Colebrooke Lane.

But pressure was put on the company to reverse its decision.

People living in the area had previously expressed concern that elderly and disabled people living in and around Shortlands Road, Langlands Road and Tiverton Road, who rely on the service to get their shopping or attend medical appointments, would experience problems if it was removed.

Buses to Exeter via Westcott will now continue and those serving Langlands Road and Tiverton will be reduced.

A Stagecoach South West spokeswoman said: “Following feedback from a number of Cullompton residents regarding our proposed rerouting of service 1B through Cullompton we can confirm that the buses will continue to operate on the existing route through Langlands Road and Tiverton Road.”

Two bus stops on Forcefield Road were recently installed along with another at Colebrook Lane ahead of the change, which was set to take place on April 2. These will now be removed.
