SPECTATORS were up at 8am on Sunday to cheer the cyclists through Silverton on the tenth running of the FORCE cancer charity ride.

The event follows the local training route ridden by Marc Millon and Nello Ghezzo in preparation for their epic ride from Topsham to Venice in 1997.

Nello tragically died of cancer in 1999 and this cycle ride, at the end of June, has become an annual tribute to him.

The cycle route continued from Silverton to Tiverton and up to North Devon before returning via Crediton to Topsham – a 100 mile route with an alternative 50 mile route.

The event now attracts 400 men and women from across the county and raises in excess of £40,000 for the FORCE cancer support centre in Exeter.
