Schools in Mid Devon saw a fantastic set of results as year 11s collected their GCSE results.

Queen Elizabeth Academy in Crediton saw an overall improvement on results.

According to Principal Rupert Poole, 13 per cent of students received an A* or A in at least five subjects and 37 per cent got five or more GCSEs from A*-B.

He said: "Today is a very significant day in the lives of the youngsters and of course it is an emotional time and the culmination of all their hard work and studying.

"The atmosphere in school this morning was incredible and there were lots of happy faces, which was great to see.  Of course it is also a very rewarding and emotional moment for the teachers as well.

"We look forward to welcoming many of the youngsters back into the Sixth Form in September.

"On behalf of all the staff, I would like to congratulate our students and wish them the very best for the future.”

Hayley Wood, year team leader for year 11 said: “It has been a real privilege to work with this fantastic year group, they are all wonderful young people and they demonstrated a brilliant work ethic throughout their time at QE.

"There has been a fantastic buzz here in school today.  The elation on the faces of the students is great to see, they have been caring and supportive of each other throughout their time at QE, and today has been no different.

"I’m delighted with these results.”

The top scoring female student was Kiri Ley with 11 A* grades and an A and top scoring male student was Tom Williams eight A* and 3 A grades.

Blundell's School announced another excellent set of GCSE results with more than a quarter of grades at A*.

These results are on par with last year's best results ever.

More than half the grades were at A* or A grades and more than a third gained at least eight A* and A grades.

The pass rate was well over 95 per cent.

The top performing student with 12 A* grades was Harry Olive.

The head, Nicola Huggett, said “I am truly delighted with this set of GCSE results which are a fitting reward for a terrific group of young people who know the value of hard work.

"The results demonstrate very clearly the excellent teaching and outstanding pastoral support that is in place to help every pupil achieve their full potential here at Blundell’s.

"In the end, however, it is up to the pupils and I am very proud indeed of all they have achieved. T

"Here is no doubt that we focus on our academic dimension, as we should, but our pupils are involved in so many other areas too.

"Musically, on the sports field and in the arts they achieve at an equally high level and they richly deserve the exciting future that now lies ahead for them.”
