CULLOMPTON's newest adventure attraction has welcomed its first visitors.

The Bear Trail was opened on Saturday by Exeter Chief, Thomas 'The Tank' Waldrom as the first little bears got their paws on the track.

The trail is set over a 10 acre site in Westcott. There are 16 obstacles to tackle including zip wires, rickety bridges and mud pits.

The man behind the new attraction, Ben Jordan, wanted to create an affordable family day out, and also offered 10 per cent of the admission cost to the Cullompton Swimming Pool Campaign, as part of the Bear Trail's commitment to promoting physical activity throughout the community.

Mr Jordan, said: "Today genuinely was a dream come true for all of us here. We’ve been preparing for so long, digging out the trail and getting everything in place, and to see the kids and families actually enjoying the trail and getting stuck in is what it’s all about.

"The feedback has been absolutely overwhelming, and it goes to show that people really value outdoor learning and physical activity; I think parents just want something that is accessible and reasonably priced, and that’s what we’re delighted to be able to offer.

"I really think that outdoor experiences helped shape my childhood and made me who I am today.

"When you see kids glued to a tablet or phone screen, it makes you wonder about the opportunities they could be missing out on.

"The truth is, a day-out can sometimes cost a small fortune but we firmly believe that every child should have access to an affordable, and most importantly fun, outdoor learning experience.

"We’re a local business and the support of the community is absolutely essential to us.

"Whilst the opening day was a huge success, we’re now looking forward to an incredibly busy summer.

"As a new business, we’re listening to every piece of feedback we receive and ways to make The Bear Trail bigger and better, and ensuring all of our guests leave having had a fantastic time."

More than 100 guests attended the opening day, and the trail's Facebook page gained more than 1,000 likes in less than the days.

The trail will now be open daily from 10am until 5pm, running up to September 4.

The course can be booked in two hour slots and there is a café on site.
