KIND teenagers from across Devon dedicated their Sunday to transform a Blue Cross animal shelter in Tiverton as part of Action Day.

Action Day is a national event organised by National Citizen Service (NCS).

The day is designed to showcase young people’s enthusiasm for creating real positive change in society.

As part of the project in Tiverton, the group of young people chose to revamp the gardens of the animal shelter.

They also helped to create a sensory garden from an NCS project that took place last summer, which will include different sized tunnels and various textured pathways.

Dillon Everett, NCS spring team member, said: “There’s a pretty negative stereotype around young people.

“Moments like this help me and my friends prove that we’re much more than that, we’re keen to learn new skills and use them.

“We all love animals and, after working with Blue Cross last year, we knew our local shelter needed some help revamping their garden.

“Setting up and managing my own social action project is something I’d never have done if it wasn’t for NCS but it has given me so many important skills for the future.”

Lauren Chilton, at Blue Cross, said: “We’re delighted that this group of young people have chosen to support our shelter.

They’ve made a huge difference and we could tell each of them were genuinely passionate about helping us to revamp our garden.”
