A NEW war memorial is being proposed for Tiverton.

The town does not currently have a main war memorial commemorating all conflicts, and a new war memorial is being pro - posed at the triangle of land at the tip of Angel Hill.

The site is being designed as a focus for commemorative events and will allow many more people to see wreath laying and ceremonies than is now possible.

A consultation event for the public to see draft designs for the proposed war memorial site on Angel Hill will be held at the end of the month.

This will also be an opportunity to help choose which artist is commissioned for the new memorial – three artists Iain Cotton, Charles Gurrey and Malcolm Sier have been shortlisted.

You’ll be able to see the designs between February 23 and March 6 at the Tiverton Town Hall foyer and in the Royal British Legion War Memorial Hall.

Catherine Marlow (MDDC conservation officer for Tiverton area) and Michael Hawes of Landscape Designers ‘Meiloci’ will be available to answer questions on March 3 between 10am and 12noon at the town hall and from 4pm- 6.30pm RBL hall.

The new space would also make provision for an eventual reloca - tion of the Burma Star memorial and an op - portunity to design a place for the Victoria Cross commemorative paving slab.
