HOSPISCARE is set to receive a £10,000 boost thanks to a Tiverton-based property developer.

Devonshire Homes has adopted the charity for the year and has pledged to raise the cash through a range of initiatives.

Hospiscare provides care and support for patients and their families living with a terminal illness and has centres in Mid Devon, East Devon and Exeter. All of its services are free but it needs to raise more than £5million a year to continue to care for the 2,000 patients who use its services.

Hospiscare corporate relationship manager Richard Cousins said: “One key objective for us in 2015 is to improve facilities at Pine Lodge, our day centre in Tiverton, so that we can provide even better care for dementia patients, and we are delighted a local business is helping us do that.”

Devonshire Homes sales and marketing director Jane Pearce said: “We will not only be donating money that is directly related to our business activities but we will also be engaging our staff in a wide range of events and initiatives to raise funds and the profile of Hospiscare locally.”

Devonshire Homes has agreed to give £50 for each legal completion of its new build properties through the year.

It will also sponsor a variety show at New Hall in Tiverton on Friday, March 27, being organised by the charity, with local musician Bobby G’s Bucks Fizz topping the bill. The event is in memory of Lara Schmidt, daughter of Tiverton letting agent Kathy Welden, who died aged just 39 last year and who Hospiscare cared for.

A themed ‘colour’ day will be held in the company’s offices when staff will wear blue and make a donation to the charity.

Other activities will be announced later in the year.
