‘EXCEPTIONAL’ and ‘special’ are not uncommon words used in describing the talented performers Bradninch Folk Club has had the privilege of hosting.

And those words can be used again for Alex Kumar, who performs on Tuesday.

He is not quite the youngest performer the club has featured but his maturity in performance is exceptional.

He has the spirit and songbook of Dylan, and his muse Woody Guthrie, to back his own original song-writing.

His music video ‘1963’, filmed at Topsham, was released in September and is testimony to his skills.

His appearance is the result of a floor spot he did at Braninch Folk Club in February this year. He was spellbinding then in his performance.

Alex Kumar is performing at the the folk club on October 21 in the function room of the Castle Hotel with support from visiting and local performers. The programme starts at 8pm and entry is £4.

Club nights continue on the first Tuesday of the month at the White Lion from 8.30pm.

The evenings are friendly and informal but often full of musical gems.

September’s club night included insights and delights of the Celtic harp with music from Wales, Ireland and France.

The format is in the round and is interactive between performers and audience – entry is free.
